The fragility of life

MOHNISH MISTRY – If there’s one thing I’ve learned during my relatively short time on Earth, it’s that all of our lives are fragile. When it truly comes down to it, we have no guarantee of health, safety, and security. It is possible that we could wake up to a massive meteor shower resulting in our extinction similar to dinosaurs. In spite of this pessimistic ideology, I learned to appreciate my life more and I realized that I desire to one day have the abilities to heal those around me to ensure that our fragile lives are kept safe.

Everyday it occurs to me just how fast time is moving by. As of right now, it’s around that time where final exams begin to kick in and we begin to reminisce over our past semester. In my eyes, I see it as a beautiful tragedy. We’re all sad that our semester is coming to an end which is ultimately also a step closer to graduation. But it’s also a beautiful part of our life in that we’re able to learn more about ourselves and others through the experiences we’ve had.

Thus, I realized that our lives are all fragile in the most pleasant way. But because our lives are so fragile, it means that we need to take care of ourselves to the fullest extent. Whether that be mentally, physically, or emotionally, our lives mean nothing if we can’t take care of our mind, body, and soul.

With the opportunity to take care of others through medicine and preserve the fragility of our lives, I chose to pursue a career in medicine. My goal is to help others understand that their lives are just as fragile as somebody else’s and that there should be no disregard to the importance of caring for their own body and mind. I strongly believe that the capabilities of medicine allow for the uttermost preservation of human fragility through its first-hand treatment. There is no better way to preserve human life’s fragility than through medicine so why should I not take advantage of the opportunity to do so?

We all deserve the opportunity to preserve our own mind, body, and soul which is why I also believe in equal access to healthcare. I strongly believe that it is a basic human right and that there should not have to be arguments about it at all. It’s important to remember that at the end of the day, our time here on Earth is purely temporary. So why not make the most out of it by preserving our fragility through the applications of medicine?
